A Beginners Guide
Here’s what you need to know to get started:
- Do not buy a Crosby suitcase style turntable with speakers included, it will work, but it sounds terrible
- Get yourself either a Sony or Audio-Technica turntable from BestBuy or Amazon, they should be in the $150 to $200 range
- These turntables will either offer Bluetooth connection or RCA cables to easily connect to bookshelf speakers
- Some more expensive turntables require amplifiers and tuners and things you do not want to deal with as a beginner
- Get yourself a pair of bookshelf speakers that should set you back about $100 – $150
- These are typically about 10″ to 12″ tall but they pack plenty of sound
- You can certainly get bigger if you want to blow the roof off, but I use a small set of bookshelf and I can shake the walls when I need to get down
- Depending on whether on not you got RCA or Bluetooth record player, you may need to buy some RCA cables (cheap)
- You can get this setup in about 10 minutes
- There is nothing hard about the setup, you may need to put a couple pieces of the record player together, just make sure the protective cover on the needle is off and sometimes the manufacturer tapes the turntable to the base, so remove any tape before playing your first record.
- If you can fork out $300, you’ll have a setup that will last for years and sound amazing…you can do it!
