Not sure if I will keep this category. But for now, here’s a quick review:
The famous pizza reviewer, Dave Portnoy, loves New Haven pizza. So when I had to go to New Haven for work, I decided to try his highest rated place, Sally’s. Dave is a hard grader and rarely gives a pizza a score above a 7, very few get a score of an 8 or above…Sally’s got a 9.2 on his rating scale. I went to Sally’s and expected greatness, instead, I got something that looked like a burnt frozen pizza. If I had to pick my favorite pizza of all time, I would give you three:
- Rubirosa in Little Italy, NYC (all around food and experience, it’s not a cheesy Little Italy spot, it’s legit incredible food)
- Deninos in Staten Island, NY (best pizza I’ve ever tasted, I used to go to Staten Island a lot for work when I was a sales manager, Deninos made it worthwhile, it was cash only when I went…it was so good, I almost want to go back to Staten Island)
- Lorenzos on South Street in Philadelphia. The pizza itself is good, not great, but two things bring it into the top ten
- Size (biggest slice of pizza you’ll find)
- Stays open after the bars close, getting a gigantic slice at 2:30AM is one of the best experiences in life
